Dear society,

We, the students, are not Einstein. At least most of us aren’t. And we aren’t Superman either. So please stop pressuring us to be perfect cause we aren’t. You expect us get perfect grades, be involved in the community, take extracurricular activities, and get high scores on the the SAT/ACT? Well I hate to break it to you but most of us are human. You wonder why some of us are so stressed, unhealthy, and ultimately falling behind in school? Well a lot of it is because we feel the pressure. Sure there are those people who do drugs but you need to remember there are those who don’t. You blame our failures on drugs and drinking and what not. And while that’s true, it’s doesn’t always apply to everyone. We all have lives. And you will tell us, “Oh if you just put a little time aside to focus on everything else, you can have your life. Just push through it for a few years.” That is complete and utter bull. Keep in mind that what we learn is much different and in some cases more advanced then what you did. The standards are rising high and quickly. In some cases a bit too quickly. All we ask is that you give us a break. Cause we aren’t robots that don’t require sleep. Nor are we prodigies in every category. Most of us are still growing up and you’re simply forcing us to grow up faster. Faster than you did. You’re forcing us to let go of the little remaining time of our childhood. So please keep that in mind next time you take a look at us.
